pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge to individuals, families,
medical facilities, businesses, and the economy worldwide. Although any crisis of
such magnitude can be deeply troubling and anxiety-provoking, it can also serve
as an important catalyst for creative action and innovation outcomes.
Let’s look at
the rays of hope shining through the black clouds which shows us how mankind
has upped its innovative game to beat this pandemic.
Low-Cost PPE
KIT – The Indian Navy Innovation
A doctor in the Indian navy has developed a low-cost PPE kit. The kits are made of a special fabric that allows a high level of protection to the healthcare workers with high breathability suitable for hot and humid conditions.
COVSACK
The Defence
Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has designed a disinfection
chamber “COVSACK-Covid Sample Collection Kiosk” that can help healthcare workers
take the sample from suspicious patients, without the need for PPE kits. The
kiosk can be disinfected automatically via its inherent features without any
human intervention.
ZAFI - The
robot
The voice-activated
zafi robot was developed with the specific purpose of delivering meals and
medication to covid infected patients without requiring direct interaction. The robot has a range of 1,500 meters of
radio-controllable system.
Respir Aid
Respir Aid is a
portable breathing support system developed by Biodesign innovation Lab to meet
the shortage of ventilators. It uses a ventilation strategy called Intermittent
positive airway pressure that can moderate essential respiratory parameters.
This makes it suitable for patients who are at serve risk of lung collapse.
Smart
stethoscope
IIT Bombay has
developed a digital stethoscope that can listen to heartbeats from a distance
and record that can listen to heartbeats from distance AND record them, the
auscultated sound from a patient is wirelessly sent to the doctor using a blue
tooth, thus minimizing the risk of health care professionals contracting the
novel coronavirus from the patient.
Eco brick
Dr. Binish Desai,
popularly known as the recycling man of India, is turning biomedical waste
generated during the pandemic into eco-friendly brick, this eco-friendly brick
was mainly made from PPE kits and masks made from non-woven fabric to help
decrease the burden on the environment.
Man and mankind
rise to occasion and tackle situation is proven again. In every emergency,
there are always people who use their creativity and compassion to help those
around them to survive and thrive.
